How to structure your first novel ?

Everything begins with an idea.

Writing a first novel often begins with a strong idea, but that idea needs structure to last through an entire manuscript.

Start by defining the heart of your story: the main character, their goal, what prevents them from moving forward, and how they change throughout the narrative.

Then divide your novel into major steps. A starting situation, an inciting incident, complications, a crisis point, and a resolution. This progression helps you stay oriented without limiting your creativity.

Structure should not trap your writing. It should act as a guide. You can adjust it as you go, as long as it helps you understand where the story is heading.

Before writing each chapter, summarize what it must advance in one sentence: an emotion, a decision, a revelation, or a conflict. This makes the manuscript more coherent and more alive.

This idea deserves a first page.

Rediscover the joy of writing, one step at a time.
